WALKING FOR DED wins Best Documentary Short at Cinetopia…

At the 2019 Cinetopia Film Festival Detroit Voices competition, Walking For Ded was honored with the Best Documentary award among a field of excellent short films. The films screened at the Senate Theatre in Detroit on May 16th.

Walking For Ded: A Short Film About Sanctuary will premiere online on Friday, April 12th, 2019.

Walking For Ded (Scott Boehm & Peter Johnston/2019/8 mins) is a meditation on the revival of the sanctuary movement in response to the anti-immigrant political agenda implemented by the Trump administration. It focuses on the case of Ded Rranxburgai, an Albanian immigrant who has lived and worked in the U.S. for 17 years. Ded has been in sanctuary with his family at Central United Methodist Church in Detroit since January 16, 2018. ICE considers him a fugitive.
