Walking For Ded: A Short Film About Sanctuary will premiere online on Friday, April 12th, 2019.
Walking For Ded (Scott Boehm & Peter Johnston/2019/8 mins) is a meditation on the revival of the sanctuary movement in response to the anti-immigrant political agenda implemented by the Trump administration. It focuses on the case of Ded Rranxburgai, an Albanian immigrant who has lived and worked in the U.S. for 17 years. Ded has been in sanctuary with his family at Central United Methodist Church in Detroit since January 16, 2018. ICE considers him a fugitive.
Last May, members of the congregation led by Rev. Jill Zundel teamed up with Michigan United to organize a 90-mile pilgrimage from Detroit to the state capitol in Lansing to “Keep Families Together.” Walking For Ded tells the story of their inspirational march to convince ICE to issue Ded a stay of removal and to bring attention to how deportation shatters families.
Starting April 12th, Walking For Ded will be available for free viewing on the film’s website (http://walkingforded.com), as well as on Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Vimeo.
A film screening and press conference in conjunction with the online premiere will be held at Central United Methodist. Confirmed participants include Ded Rranxburgai, the Rev. Jill Zundel, Caitlin Homrich-Knieling (Michigan United) and Scott Boehm, the director of the film.
